Disney’s Haunted Halloween 2012 – “Choose Your Dark Side”




• Campaign Objectives
- In a continuous battle to draw visitors from the long-standing Halloween event offered by its competitor, Hong Kong Disneyland split itself into two tribes for the haunted festival – vampires and werewolves – with a virtual game with augmented reality technology to engage with its audience.



• Yahoo! Solutions
- To further grab attention online, Hong Kong Disneyland used Crazy Ad, Pushdown Roadblock with Gutter, Login Ad, Anchor Ad and other rich media formats to dramatise the conflict between the two forces portrayed by two well-known celebrities.
- With the slider feature, viewers could pan the cursor to the left of the screen to bring out the werewolf and his followers while moving it to the right revealed the vampire and her entourage. Fans could then choose their side of the war in the app before they were taken to the virtual game.



• Results
- The campaign became the talk of the town quickly after the launch and successfully delivered the “Choose your own side” message. The campaign attained record high click-through and interaction rate with massive rich media formats supported on Yahoo.
