This infographic shares insights into airline booking trends from a recent study by Yahoo and Compete. The study looked at five leading airlines (Southwest, American, Delta, United, and JetBlue) and data from two million U.S. online consumers.

Airlines have opportunities to build more customers in the middle and upper levels of the purchase funnel, according to the study. Advertisers can use the study’s insights to shape their awareness and engagement campaigns to build conversions and put more people into airplane seats.

Three key findings from the infographic:

  • Best in reservation starts : Southwest gets 50% of its sales prospects to initiate the airline reservation process.

  • Tops in reservation completes: Delta sees 71% of reservation starters go on to finish the reservation process.

  • Most effective display ads: Yahoo drives 50% of display-based airline prospects, reservation starts, and reservation conversions, far ahead of the competition.
